It takes a lot of work…

to grow older.  How do I know this for a fact?  Well, I just do.  Take my word for it.  As you grow older first one thing begins to fail and then another.  You have one health problem after another.

Then after 50 years with one of the best guys on earth, you lose him to cancer,  Just like you had lost one brother and three sisters to cancer.  You think that you can’t go on but your sister tells you that you can go on and that you have to go on.

So you go on.  And believe me it is harder than h*** to go on.  But I did.

  8. It sure AIN'T easy getting old. I refuse to let it consume me, though. I know it takes longer to heal when you get hurt or are sick, and that, in itself, is super-frustrating! I also miss so many of the things we had and used in our youth that don't exist today. Everything is so TECHNO now a days. I miss actually talking to people face-to-face, but like the ability to keep in touch with people through the internet. Will certainly be visiting this space often too! Good job!

  13. when I was young, I didn't have to pluck anything. Today I went to the shop and got practically ALL my face waxed! This is what getting old is like.

  15. Since we're all in the same boat or will be, it is more than one pair of hands working those oars! I read more than I write, but sharing common situations seems to be something I look forward to every day. WE ARE NOT ALONE. Thanks for starting this blog. My mother never even gave me a hint of what it was like to age and never complained or showed her daily struggles so this will help.

  16. Good idea, Beth. I'd been thinking of doing one blog on the subject, but since part of growing old is slowing down in everything whether you want to or not, Many things get put off. At age 81 and in more pain than any other time except childbirth, I am daily reminded of how it used to be. And when you are older none of the medical people really care how soon they figure out if it is Bursitis of the hip, or Arthritis, or?, so you have to wait a week or so between each little effort to find out. Steroids and codiene didn't help. Not being able to bend over makes life very difficult to feed the cats, put away dishes, put something in the oven. But I cling to happy memories. I don't tell people about this, 'cause no one wants to hear, except one good friend with whom I can share and she can share with me, and we both care. I still have my husband and love him dearly, but he isn't any happier than I am with this. Oh, well, one day at a time. I will read and see how the rest of you are coping.

  20. Hello dear Beth,

I've been away from your blog for too long. I read all the posts to catch up. I love your life stories. I find them to be heart-warming, fascinating...and inspirational. Some are terribly sad...the story of your Jim hearing about his sister's passing while he was in the hospital was one of those.

I am sorry to hear your are having heart and apnea problems- my husband has bad apnea and had to wear the same mask you pictured. He hated it. Now they have fitted him with a mouth device that is more comfortable.

I was curious about how you ended up moving, because I missed that somehow. Now I know...I can't imagine how it must have been clearing out a house you lived in for 50 years. I would have trouble packing my house and I've only been in it for a few years.
