Causes of AFIB…

http://www.stopafib.org/causes.cfm?REFCODE=GooglePPC&Q=causes%20of%20afib

One reader asked what cause AFIB?  I really wish I knew the correct answer for that.  If you are interested please click on the link above.  Some suggested causes are suspected to be genetic.  Perhaps, diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, and heart or other meds.

Another known risk factor is having too much or too little of some minerals such as calcium, magnesium or potassium in your body.

Now lets see if there is anything in these probable causes that I can be linked to.  I don’t have diabetes,  My blood sugar has always been at or below the normal range.

I have battled high blood pressure since my first child was born some 50 odd years ago.  http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/preeclampsia.html
I have thyroid disease and I have taken meds for that for over 30 years.   As for heart meds, I have taken meds for them for over 50 years.

I have chronic kidney disease.  Because of this I have too much calcium in my body.
So I can see how my AFIB might have happened,  More tomorrow.  beth

  1. Hi Beth,

Gosh you certainly battle with a few medical problems. I have high blood pressure, but don't think I tick any of the other boxes. My daughter Karen has high blood pressure and thyroid problems and is on medication.

    Take care - Hugs Nita

  2. My husband has Afib. Our MD said that one half of the heart wants to beat very fast and the other half doesn't. Therefore the blood backs up and could easily clot. For some unknown to us reason Coumadin helps. He got one of the side effects of Coumadin which is Lactose Intolerance shortly after this started at age 79. He is, however still with me, so we just keep adjusting to the changes age brings. We are grateful for the blessings of life.

This is an interesting blog you are doing, Beth.
